For Fear of the Forest...... The Swamp Ghouls

The Black Sorcerer cannot be defeated with any weapon that exists, and the merciless swamp ghouls are his closest allies. Ah yes, the swamp ghouls! It's time you learned about the swamp ghouls. Goblins are nasty, trolls are very nasty, and ogres are extremely nasty, but swamp ghouls are dreadful, ghastly, horrid, loathsome and terrifying, and all sorts of other appalling things as well. Only Ainmire, the mighty elf prince and grandfather of the Elfin Queen, had ever had ever defeated a firbolg (a swamp ghoul general) in one to one combat, so it was definitely not a good idea to fight one. Oh, I may have forgotten to mention that they suck their victims blood until it is all drained from the hapless victim's body. The swamp ghouls were from an ancient time before the goblins, trolls and ogres came and many years before Durg-Baulder, the Black Sorcerer, took the goblin throne by force. They had lived in the hidden caves in the dark, remote places of the grey mountains, across the moors from the goblin castle that Durg-Baulder reinforced and turned into a fortress. Woe betide anyone, or anything, that tried to cross those moors because they would never be seen again. The bogs and swamps swallowed unwary travellers, or could it have been the swamp ghouls that swallowed unwary travellers? Swamp ghouls were ten feet tall and six feet wide, and each one was stronger than twenty men. Before Durg-Baulder had taken the goblin throne he hid from the elves in the grey mountains, where he confronted the swamp ghouls, put them under his spell and made them slaves to his will. They wielded deadly swords, crafted by Durg-Baulder himself, with black magic spells upon them. Even a slight cut from a blade would be fatal because there was no known antidote. The swamp ghouls were Durg-Baulder's closest allies. They were the most terrifying beings that had ever confronted the woodland elves until Durg Baulder's heart turned black, and he himself mutated into the most fearsome of living creatures.
